What are Raspberry Ketones?
Raspberry Ketones aid in the release of body fat for energy; this makes it a useful ingredient for both fat loss and sports performance. What do Raspberry Ketones do?
Prevent Fat Storage
Raspberry Ketones cause hormone-sensitive lipase (HSL) to locate itself within fat cells. Once inside fat cells, HSL breaks down fat molecules into various fatty acids, which can then be metabolised. This process is known as lipolysis and is essential for preventing fat storage. Unless HSL is present then lipolysis will not take place, so the provision of HSL by raspberry ketones is a reflection of how this supplement can act as an important fat loss agent by preventing fat storage. This was evidenced in trials conducted on mice in Japan. The mice were on a high-fat and high-sugar diet yet by supplementing the mice with Raspberry Ketones, researchers noted that the mice not only did not store extra fat, but actually lost weight.
Thermogenics contribute to fat loss by raising the body’s core temperature and thus increasing its metabolism. Raspberry Ketones have a very similar chemical structure to two well known thermogenic ingredients; synephrine (citrus aurantuim) and capsaicin. Both synephrine and capsaicin are well known to stimulate the beta-3 receptors of the nervous system, which causes an increase in metabolic rate (thus burning more calories) and increased lipolysis. Research shows that Raspberry Ketones also appear to stimulate these beta-3 receptors, thus acting thermogenically.
