Green Tea Extract Powder

Details
Green Tea was discovered over 4000 years ago by a Chinese Emperor. It derives from a plant called the Camellia Sinensis.
Where to find Green Tea: Green Tea only derives from the Camellia Sinensis plant, so it does not naturally occur in any foods.
Other names for Green Tea: Camellia Sinensis, Epigallocatechin Gallate (ECGC).
Why use Green Tea?
Green Tea is commonly found in many off the shelf ‘fatburners’, this is because its main benefit for athletes is its ability to:
Increase Fat Loss
Green Tea is naturally high in Caffeine and Catechin Polyphenols, both of which have been proven to speed up our resting metabolic rate. This basically means that supplementing with Green Tea can speed up the rate at which our bodies burn calories, of course we know that burning calories leads to weight loss. A study carried out in Europe on healthy males confirmed this. The participants who supplemented with Green Tea burned 4% more energy than the placebo, and over a longer period of time.
Increase Energy & Endurance
The Caffeine in Green Tea enables our bodies to use bodyfat as energy. This again suggests that Green Tea is an excellent fat loss supplement but also that it can provide us with extra energy. For anybody who exercises this can be useful in preventing the onset of fatigue, thus maximising physical performance.
Performance Benefits
Green Tea has been used for over 4000 years as a general health and weight loss aid. Its main health benefits include:
Improving Immune Function
The Polyphenols in Green Tea activate our bodies ‘virus-killer’ cells. These cells both help flush unwanted toxins from the body and fight harmful bacteria.
Reducing Free Radicals
Green Tea is a potent antioxidant, serving to protect our bodies from free radicals that cause damage to our cells.
As a dietary supplement take 0.2g 1-3 times daily, preferably on an empty stomach for optimal absorption. BP Basics Green Tea Extract can also be combined with other fat-loss products for enhanced results.
A BulkPowders.co.uk 0.5ml measure (level scoop) provides approximately 0.3g of Green Tea powder. We therefore recommend using 2/3 of a scoop per serving.

Only started taking this a couple of days ago so can't comment on any fat-burning or metabolism raising qualities.
What it has done, and is quite remarkable, is cut my coffee intake to shreds.
After reading some of the other reviews, I mix a measure with my first cup of tea in the morning. I would usually down three mugs of tea and start on a jug of filter coffee (which would normally last until lunchtime) before getting the kids off to school, but now just the one brew wakes me up and I simply don't crave any more caffeine. No racing heart, jitters or other side effects. Just another cuppa in the afternoon with a scoop of green tea extract sees me through.
As for taste, just mix it into a cup of tea and shock horror, it still tastes like tea. Just do invest in the 0.5ml measure as the serving size is so small it would be very easy to double the dose or more.
At this price for the bulk powder, it is an absolute bargain. On 14/05/2012 Alastair said... -
Tastes alright to me!

Can't review its effectiveness as I've been taking it for a grans total of 2 days now, but mixed in a cup of hot water, tastes just like black tea to me - I have NO idea where the taste complaints are coming from?! On 11/04/2012 Hayley Bosworth said... -

The effects are very profound, and quite noticable. Being used to drink high quantities of coffee daily, this is a very nice supplement, and the energy-boost - both physical as well as mental - is great. I've been running a strict diet with constant measurements of food, and I've certainly been able to lean out faster after adding green tea.
\
\
As for taste - it's horrible. It's easy to get around, though. Fill a glass with around 1 inch of water (2,5 cm) of water, put in the extract and gulp it down. The trick is to swallow before the water hits the back of your mouth. It does take some practice, so have some water handy ) On 11/04/2012 Anonymous said... -

Taste isn't that bad at all!
\
\
I use 1 level tablespoon in 500 ml water and it's awesome. I drink 2 liters a day of this stuff. But beware: if you drink too much of it in a short time it can make you feel slightly nauseous.
\
\
Also be sure to take it on an empty stomach in the morning for maximum effect. If you take it with a protein meal the green tea will bind with the protein making it ineffective. On 11/04/2012 Joep van der Heiden said... -
Bad tasting BUT you can mask it!
Rating
Yes, I agree with previous reviewer that it's bad tasting - probably on par with Creatine Ethyl Ester...
\
BUT - you can mask it VERY SIMPLY - but either (a) adding more (warm) water - say total around 200ml... OR (b) mix with honey/dextrose.
\
Both options helps.
\
At least it does appear contribute towards overall fat burning goals....(and a slight energy boost). On 11/04/2012 Prash Kotecha said... -

This stuff its great BUT it is the worst tasting substance I have ever had. You can not mask it with anything. So cap it yourself or buy caps/tablets. On 11/04/2012 Chris Lynch said... -
