If you’re looking for a shake to have before bed, to stave off overnight catabolism, then Calcium Caseinate is the perfect choice. One 30g serving provides 27g of slow digesting protein, ensuring a sustained supply of amino acids to your muscles throughout the night. What’s more, each serving of Calcium Caseinate contains over 20% of anti-catabolic glutamic acid.

Calcium Caseinate Instantised Information

Calcium Caseinate is a biologically-unique grade of protein derived from milk, and is low in fat, lactose and sodium. In addition, Calcium Caseinate boasts an impressive nutritional profile that's naturally rich in amino acids, protein and calcium. What is its use? Despite having the same high quality rating as traditional whey isolates, Calcium Caseinate is more slowly utilized based on its coagulating properties. This slow digestion process allows the body to absorb more of the amino acids and peptides, while offering a steady and prolonged supply of nitrogen to muscle tissues. The slow-release makes Calcium Caseinate a great choice of protein before bed or when one knows they may not be consuming a high protein meal/supplement for at least a few hours.

Our Calcium Caseinate is instantised for easy mixing.

How is it different to Whey?

Perhaps the most striking difference between whey and casein is the rate of digestion and absorption into the body. After consuming whey proteins there is a rapid rise in levels of blood amino acids which returns to baseline in approximately 2 hours. Casein, however, coagulates in the stomach, forming a curd, and is digested far more slowly, leading to a more moderate rise in blood amino acids that is sustained for up to 7 hours. So in terms of muscle hypertrophy, whey can be considered a 'fast protein' promoting protein synthesis to the extent that it is ‘anabolic’. Calcium Caseinate would however be classified as a ‘slow protein’, slowing the breakdown of protein to the extent that it is ‘anti-catabolic’.

Does the Job

Mixability is terrible- Don't put enough water in the shaker and it's like drinking cement. Solution to that- add more water than usual. Simple.
\
Taste isn't fantastic.
\
\
The only thing that really matters though is does it do the job? Yes! Amazing product, super slow absorption. A good investment.

Mr savino

Spat my 1st one out and tipped the full 60g's down the drain. Now I want to re sell it but my friend Russell said don't think about the taste, think about the nutrition. So now I'm in a predicament!!
\
I give a low star rating because of the vile taste only.

Good stuff!

It does mix really well, but you have to be quick. 400ml of water and any flavouring into your shaker first, then a 60ml scoop, lid on as fast as you can and shake like crazy! Leave it standing and it'll be a clumpy mess.
\
12 drops of strawberry makes it taste pleasant enough too.

Why does everyone complain about the taste...?

I think I must be weird - I LOVE IT! I have to stop myself eating it 'raw'!
\
\
Great stuff - anyone who has to flavour it's a Big Girl (and I AM a big girl!)

Good bedtime supplement

I've not tried whey powder, so I can make no comparison, but I have no complaints about the taste or texture of this supplement. I mix a 75 ml scoop with 300 ml of cold water in a shaker and add 12 drops of strawberry flavour. I don't have a cast-iron stomach but it has caused me no digestive problems either.

Not very good at mixing leaves lots at the bottom

Tastes ok better with milk. Does not mix very well find it leaves clumps at the bottom. Might try the milk concentrate next time see if it mixes better.

Taste isn't as bad as first seems ...

First of all the stuff is great as is all BP products. Although not as tasty as whey protein it is best for before bed and for this reason I presevered with the initial taste.
\
\
Initially I made with milk and it was really thick and very hard to get down even when adding water to try and dilute. However, personally I think there is a better option that drinking asap as some people suggest.
\
\
After giving up on the 'quick' option I find drinking slowly and making with water fairly dilute (300-400ml) and approx 20 drops of BP flavouring of choice makes it more than acceptable.

practical but not perfect

when mixing this it tastes awful to be honest, it gives a weird texture & can froth quite a bit, so i recommend that you only buy this if you have a strong stomach, flavouring doesn't seem to work all that well on it either. even though it doesnt need to be mentioned its very good value for money like everything else on this site.
\
i use this in conjunction with the scotish oats & a little whey protein to make a meal replacement, it works well apart from the fact that you have to neck it quite quick to make the taste last as short as possible, i find water thats quite cold can help with the taste a bit. i hope this helps anyone considering this, oh and a 75ml scoop measures out about 45gms

David Says....

Taste wise it isn't a fraction as nice as the whey concentrate. It is similar in taste, texture and smell to coffee whitener and it it can get a bit gloopy and thick when mixing. It also sets into a curd REALLY quickly so you have to gulp it down ASAP.
\
\
Quality wise I am sure it is tip top. I am just using it before bed, and maybe adding a wee bit to WC80 shakes throught the day so I can handle the downsides to it. It's not a real easy to drink protein but if you want a slow absorbe there is no other way really.
